The Laodicean Age
Those in the world are spiritually asleep today. But then so are most so-called Christians -- the lost goats and the saved sheep both asleep together. We are indeed finally in the "Laodicean Age" of the church, the final Church Age of Great Apostasy.
This great spiritual sleepiness is illustrated by the fact that the word "Laodicean" was the very word that 13 year old Kayva Shivashankar spelled correctly to win the 2009 Scripps National Spelling Bee. If the word "Laodicean" were in common usage today, then it would not have been used in this spelling bee, since words which are perceived as difficult words or infrequently used words are generally used in such spelling bees.
Jesus had a lot to say to us concerning this current Laodicean Age. Jesus said:
"And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:" (Revelation 3:14-17)
Jesus said that today's so-called Christians would be spiritually "naked" and "blind" and "poor". Jesus said that today's typical church members would not be hot or cold. Jesus said that they would be "lukewarm" instead.
It has happened just as Jesus said that it would. Most church members today are spiritually very deeply asleep as the "midnight hour" approaches. Preachers who preach fiery sermons are shown the "Not Welcome" mat by just about every church today. Few even seem to notice the great lack of fiery, sin-rebuking sermons in today's apostasy.
Instead, most so-called "Christians" today desire "lukewarm" rather than "hot" preaching. They just want to sit back and listen, (or not listen as is generally the case), to a verse-by-verse Bible study, and then rush back home to their big screen televisions. They want to live the rest of the week in deep sin and rebellion against the clear command of Christ to "take up" the "cross" and live an "on-fire" life for Him.
Are you like that? Do you desire to be just lukewarm? If you do, then Jesus said that the reason for your desire to be lukewarm is that you are spiritually "blind" and "naked". The reason for your spiritual blindness and nakedness is most likely that you have never been truly converted.
Turn from your sin. Trust Jesus and He will save you from your sins. Jesus is up in Heaven right now, and can wash away your sins with His blood. Trust Jesus today. Don't put it off. Reject sin. Find life. Find Jesus. Then get into a good Fundamentalist Baptist church and live a "hot" and "fiery" life for Jesus. Do it today!
